Statement Issued by the Yemeni Peace Committee

On the Calls for Self-Governance and the Future of the Yemeni State

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

To the great people of Yemen,

As our nation continues to face mounting challenges, certain dubious calls for “self-governance” in some regions have emerged, seeking to undermine Yemen’s unity and sow division among its people. The Yemeni Peace Committee, driven by its commitment to achieving just peace and ensuring the right of all regions to development and local governance, reaffirms the following principles:

1. Local Governance within a Unified Federal State:

We firmly believe in the right of every region and governorate to manage its local affairs freely and efficiently within a federal system that ensures a fair distribution of powers between the central government and regional authorities. The central government must retain sovereign powers over defense, security, foreign policy, and national resources.

2. Justice in the Distribution of National Resources:

Yemen’s sovereign wealth belongs to all its people. These resources must be centrally managed and distributed equitably based on population size, geographic area, and the developmental needs of each region to ensure comprehensive and sustainable development across all governorates without discrimination.

3. Rejection of Dubious Calls for Self-Governance:

The current calls for self-governance, promoted by entities subservient to foreign agendas, are nothing but attempts to fragment Yemen and undermine its unity. These calls aim to weaken the state and surrender its sovereign decision-making to foreign powers. We categorically reject such agendas.

4. The Importance of National Unity:

We urge all Yemenis to come together and work collectively to preserve the nation’s unity, steering clear of narrow projects that only serve Yemen’s adversaries. The path to development and stability lies not in fragmentation or subservience, but in building a strong state that guarantees rights and freedoms for all its citizens.

5. Strengthening the Federal System:

The optimal solution for ensuring stability and development lies in establishing a modern federal democratic state. Such a state should distribute powers between the central government and governorates in a way that facilitates effective local governance while preserving the nation’s unity and sovereignty.

A Message to the People of Socotra and All Yemeni Governorates:

To our free and resilient people, we acknowledge the immense challenges you face and recognize that marginalization and corruption have burdened you greatly. However, we firmly believe that the solution does not lie in secession or in following calls for servitude and dependency. Instead, it lies in reinforcing a federal system that guarantees every region its right to self-administration without compromising the unity and sovereignty of the state.

The Yemeni Peace Committee stands with you and urges you to reject all projects that aim to spread chaos or fragment the nation. We also call upon the legitimate government and national forces to fulfill their historic responsibilities in protecting citizens’ rights and fostering development across all regions.

In Conclusion:

We affirm that Yemen belongs to all its people, and building a bright future requires safeguarding the nation’s unity and establishing a fair federal state where national resources are responsibly managed, and justice prevails among all citizens.
